Adult Discipleship

At FPC there is a two-fold emphasis upon education and spiritual nurture which emphasizes that the followers of Jesus Christ are connected through Christ to almighty God, who is the source of abundant life.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." (Mt. 78:20) is our focus.

As we worship, serve, and learn together, we grow in faith, and the Holy Spirit deepens our resources for living faithfully in service to our Lord, Jesus Christ.

There are many engaging opportunities here at First Presbyterian church to learn to serve and to follow, including Adult Sunday learning, Home Groups, Wednesday Programs, and Weekly Bible Studies.

Adult Learning (Sunday morning) Opportunities

  1. A new Adult Sunday school class meets in Room 123 with rotating discussion leaders (Kevin Buck, John Graham, and Chase Arndt). The group is studying the book of Matthew with a discussion guide by N.T. Wright

  2. Coffee and Prayer group meets in Room 163

  3. Adult Bible study in the chapel with Rev. Tim Meredith

  4. The Friendship Class meets weekly with our special adults from the community

Home Groups (Fall and Spring Semester)

Small group Experiences (6-12 people gathering together weekly) that last 10 - 12 weeks each semester and the children's programs, youth and adult programs along with Sunday morning worship focuses upon specific Bible narratives and topics in a thematic progression. All the ongoing Home Groups are available to join including evening and morning options on different days of the week, or you may start a new one, or join one of the new groups that will be meeting on Wednesday nights at the church. In either case, contact Dave Welch for more information, or check out the webpage on Home Groups.

Wednesday Programs

This is a midweek opportunity, a time of renewal in fellowship, learning and worship that revolves around two important gatherings. The first is a fellowship meal provided for a nominal offering that starts at 5:30 pm. The meal is served family style and invites lively interaction between all ages. The Fellowship Meal is followed by a special presentation or a Bible Study for adults, while the children and student programs take place. The evening concludes by 7 pm.

Weekly Bible Studies

  • Women of the church gather each semester on Thursday from 1-2:30 pm in Room 123.

  • Men meet each Thursday morning at 7 am in the Parlor.
